San Bruno, California, United States, 05/11/2007 – Software as Art, an early stage technology startup, recently hired Matthew Smith as the company’s Vice President of Marketing. Smith brings more than 13 years of hardware and software marketing experience to the Software as Art team.
Software as Art, a Bay Area-based technology startup that is developing products which help homeowners save money on their energy bills and reduce their environmental impact, today announced the appointment of Matthew Smith as the company’s Vice President of Marketing. Smith brings more than 13 years of hardware and software product marketing experience from organizations such as Sony Electronics Inc and Liquid Audio.

As Vice President of Marketing, Smith will develop strategic initiatives that will allow Software as Art to establish itself in the market, innovate more rapidly, and build effective partnerships. Smith will also be responsible for corporate communications, branding and promotional strategies, public relations, business development, and establishing the distribution mechanisms that will enable Software as Art to grow and become profitable.
Prior to joining Software as Art, Smith spent three years as the Vice President of Product Marketing at Liquid Audio, which was acquired by Anderson Merchandisers, the music distributor for Wal-Mart. Smith was responsible for all marketing, product management, technical support, key partnerships and operations for the digital music distributor whose solutions helped establish the market for digital music in the United States. Before he joined Liquid Audio, Smith spent ten years with Sony, where he held various product marketing, and management positions. In his final position at Sony Electronics Inc, he served as the Director of Marketing for the launch of the VAIO Personal Computer business where he led the firm from startup to breakeven during the first three years of business operations.

Smith holds an MBA in Sustainable Management from the Presidio School of Management and a BS in Computer Science from The University of Pittsburgh.
